FAQ
What should I expect for the initial consultation?

The assessment is between 10 – 20 minutes, followed by a 60 minute treatment. At the end of the treatment aftercare advice will be discussed and a potential treatment plan will be drawn up.
What should I wear to the treatment?

It is recommended that you dress in a manner that makes you comfortable for the postural assessment, such as shorts or swimwear. Adjustments can be made to the assessment to suit the individual.
Why do I have to have a postural assessment?

A full postural assessment and consultation indicates areas of dysfunction and/or tension that can lead to injury. By identifying tension, trauma and adhesions, a number of appropriate methods can be implemented to treat the soft tissue.
Will the treatment be painful?

Pain is very subjective. What one person finds pleasurable another may find painful. The approach “no pain, no gain” really isn’t a true reflection of good bodywork. Most clients will experience no pain at all during a session. If you are having a pre-event, post event, or relaxation ,massage than you will not experience pain.
Where remedial massage is concerned, some methods such as cross fibre friction can be uncomfortable as we are breaking down strong adhesions. When we apply neuromuscular techniques these can replicate the discomfort that you have felt, and the reason that you have made your appointment. But by implementing breathing techniques any pain is reduced quickly.
Friction and neuromuscular techniques last no longer than 90 seconds and many people find them very tolerable, some even pleasant. These techniques are always followed up with soothing and calming massage. Clients are asked to check in if they are feeling pain and treatments will be adjusted accordingly. When you leave you will feel refreshed and calm.

Remember, the reason for the treatment is to reduce pain not increase it!
Will i be in pain following the treatment?

Everybody reacts differently to a treatment and depending on the treatment.
Relaxation massage will make you feel relaxed and reduce tension. There should be no soreness.

Pre-event massage will make you feel awake, vitalised and ready for action! The event itself may make you feel a little sore.

Post –event massage will help to reduce soreness and stillness, aiding recovery. Any pain will be from the event.

In regards to remedial massage, most people will feel absolutely fine the day after, with less pain and increased mobility. Some people tender or fragile but this is very short lived, half a day to a day maximum. This is because we may have worked on deeper tissues. Muscles and connective tissue that have become stuck due to inactivity or injury. When we unwind these adhesions they can feel a little tender the next day, this is totally normal. However, you will receive no bruising. I always suggest to have an ‘easy day’ the following day until you know how you will react.

As mentioned before, the reason for the treatment is to reduce pain not increase it!
Is it OK to take pain killers?
